Senior School

Oakleigh Grammar Senior School students are more than just a number. Recognising the link between positive teacher/student relationships and VCE success, our dedicated staff work to ensure that students are given the individualised learning and pastoral support they require.

Responsibility for one’s own behaviour and learning become more important as students consolidate their learning styles and identify their strengths and challenges. As young citizens of a complex and demanding global community, they are encouraged to view problems as opportunities for growth.

The Careers Department assists students in shaping their final years of secondary study to complement their career ambitions. Senior School students may choose to undertake extension studies and capable Year 10s can include VCE units in their study programs.

Students are challenged to understand and clarify their individual beliefs and moral code. They develop an understanding of the importance of role modelling to younger students. Leadership within year levels and of the student body are the responsibility of all Senior students.

Students explore habits of effective and healthy adult life and are encouraged to venture into the world as happy, accomplished, well-adjusted and contributing citizens.

School Tours and Open Days

The senior years of education are the final steppingstones for students as they prepare for the future. The focus of academic learning at this stage is on achievement at the VCE level and developing the necessary prerequisites for a life beyond school. Year 10 is integral to the development of essential skills and learning, important for the best possible preparation for a full VCE program in Years 11 and 12.

The study habits and learning skills established during this year can ensure students effectively participate in a learning partnership with their teachers to bring about personal success at the completion of their time at the school. It is a challenging year where students can consolidate their learning and consider their preferred pathway.

Academic success, responsible citizenship and student wellbeing are the priorities in the Senior School - from Year 10 through to VCE.

Years 11 & 12 - VCE

Oakleigh Grammar offers approximately 20 different studies from which to select a VCE program. These come from English, Arts, Humanities, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Languages and Health and Physical Education.

In addition to these subjects, students may choose to include Vocational Education and Training (VET) off-campus programs among their choices in completing the VCE.
