Fun Winter School Holiday Activites

School Holidays

With school holidays fast approaching, it’s time to start thinking about activities you can do as a family. We are slowly seeing things reopening, with many places starting up again just in time for the break. However, things will still feel a little different with social distancing measures in place, increased hygiene practices and pre-bookings being made essential. Due to these reasons, it necessary to start planning the fun early.

Below is a list of things to do and places to go with your children:

Melbourne Zoo’s
Melbourne Zoo’s are allowing you to step back in time with their latest exhibits offering a range of dinosaur related events these school holidays. The best part is that during the break children under 16 can go for free. This applies to Werribee Open Range Zoo, Melbourne Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary. Become a junior palaeontologist this winter and explore stories of extinction. You can book a time here.

Escape Rooms
Escape and adventure rooms are a fun and engaging experience that you can do with family or friends. Your team is “locked” in a room with hidden and mysterious objects, and the aim is to escape using the objects as clues. With only 60 minutes to escape you will have to think outside the box. This is a great activity for families up for a challenge! It is also perfect activity even during the time of Covid-19, as you will only be completing the activity with those in your own booking. You can a book a session here.

National Gallery of Victoria
Whilst many have been loving the NGV’s online resources and activities, it is exciting to say the gallery along with other museums will finally be reopening. This is a great option, particularly if the weather is miserable outside. A gallery or museum will encourage a love of history and art, encouraging questions and imagination. Taking your children will fuel them with creativity and inspiration. The NGV will be implementing physical distancing measures, and whilst entrance is free there will be timed ticketing put into place. You can find more information on current exhibits here.

Trees Adventures
If you want to get the family leaping, climbing, and flying through the forest then a ropes course is for you! With multiple courses on offer, there is something for everyone. It is a great activity for both thrill seekers and nature lovers to experience the trees like never before. Tree Adventures in Glen Harrow offers 7 long courses, and 2 short courses in rain, hail, or shine. Book a time to swing in the trees here.

Drive in Cinema
The drive in is a fun and unique way to see a movie. Pack blankets, pillows and plenty of snacks then pop up the boot of the car and your set. There are many family movies showing at 3 of Melbourne best drive ins, in Coburg, Dromana and Dandenong. The best place to be when social distancing is in your own car!

Take a day trip and explore Victoria
With so many wonderful places to visit, these school holidays are a great time to get out and explore your own backyard. Whether you are up for searching for gold at Sovereign hill, chocolate tasting at Yarra Valley Chocolaterie, Exploring the Otway forest or skiing at Mt Buller, there are plenty of places around Victoria that are perfect for a day trip.
